Suprises, a Hawk, and Ice Cream

Tuesday...what an eventful day. The day started off loud and ended loud. You guessed it, the males out-numbered the females once again. I believe I have found the all male generation. They attend our preschool. I know that for a fact. It seems all we have is boys.

We had a few suprises today. Our first suprise was going to the gym for awhile. I had my class and the older class with me and I did not want 15 children ages 4-5 in my classroom. My classroom is large but with 15 children, it becomes real small. So, I decided that we would drop our bags off in the classrooms and go to the gym until the other teacher came. Remember, I still have all those boys and these boys tend to stay on the hyper side of life ALL the time. So, that means a rather interesting time including tears, arguments, and tattling. I also think this generation of boys is the most dramatic. Not trying to be rude here but wow, I have seen more arguments from the guys than any with the girls. I'm not sure that's normal. Aren't girls suppose to have the cat fights?!?! Anyways, I came up with 2 solutions that worked. I allow the boys who argue/fight separate or sit together in time out. The older ones dislike both but hey, it gets them to quit fighting or argueing...well at least for 5 minutes. Everyone survived that experience.

After the other teacher came to get the older class, my Kiddos and I walked to our classroom. We arrived at the side door and heard an awful screaching sound. I asked my Kiddos if they wanted to find what was screaching and of course they said yes. Well, to make a long story short...I asked them if the screaching could be one of the baby birds we rescued earlier this summer. I was hoping it wasn't but my kind hearted Kiddos decided that we needed to look for the baby bird. Well, I looked around the area where we had found those baby birds and then I saw a huge bird sitting in the tree maybe 3 feet above me. It was the hawk that has been seen around the school area. It has not done anything to the children or the teachers but it has stirred an awareness of its presence many times. Today was the closest I have ever been to the bird. I was amazed at the largeness of the bird when I realized that it was not the one screaching. Evidently it was near a bird's nest and a mother bird was trying her best to keep it away. I quickly asked my Kiddos if they wanted to see this. Talk about a spontanious teaching experience. I asked for all the Kiddos to keep quiet just in case the hawk did not like their talking and would decide to swoop down to chase us. We stayed there for a few minutes before the hawk came down a few branches and stared at me. We made a quick exit from the area and safely made it inside to our classroom.

Before we left for lunch, we circled together and talked about our secret summer project and this blog. Our secret summer project will stay a secret until August 3rd. Only our class is doing this project and we are so excited. I talked to the Kiddos about the blog. I explained what this blog was...a story telling about our day. I got a great response. I was asked if we [the Kiddos]were talked about. My answer: of course, that's what the story is about; our day. So, with the paperwork about the summer project and the announcement about the blog, my Kiddos had 3 sheets of paper that was to get to their moms & dads. *Crossing my fingers that the information did*

So, after an eventful morning, a filling lunch, and a nice nap, the Kiddos were ready for the icecream truck. Every Tuesday, the icecream truck has come to our school for all of us to get a treat. To be able to get an icy treat, we have to be good all day, eat lunch, and take a nap. For my class: check, check and check; everything accomplished. This week's order was rather an easy one. 4 snowcones for the 4 boys, 2 kiddie icecream sandwiches for the 2 girls, and a big mississippi mud for the teacher, me. We usually enjoy our icy treats inside but today, it was so hot and humid that we had to eat our treats in our classroom. Boy, did we enjoy our cold treats.

As the day came to an end, the hyper level slowed down. I think that hyper level will be through the roof tomorrow since it's water day. I hope we can do water day tomorrow...

The Tuesday Funnies:

At the gym...
DB [from the other class]: "You know, Ms. Mary, everyone loves you."
Ms. Mary: "Really? Why is that?"
DB: "Because you are pretty and boys like you."
Ms. Mary: "Thank you DB; wasn't expecting that last part."

In the classroom:
*Doodlebug*: "Daddy, Daddy, get these away from me."
*E*: "Ok" [& throws them on her]
*Doodlebug*: "I DON'T WANT THEM" [pretend cry]
meaning: the fake bugs were in her room & daddy [E] had to get them away. Instead of getting rid of the fake bugs, he threw them on *Doodlebug*.

*Abbalou*: "Do you think Soldier Alex likes to be kissed?"
meaning: she still is amazed by my cousin...why the kissing?? I have no clue

*Doodlebug*: "Hey, can I show you on your globe where my Grandma lives?"
Ms. Mary: "Sure, show me."
*Doodlebug*: "Here, she lives there; [pointing to the USA] is this AMIRACAL?
Ms. Mary: "Yes, that is AMERICA."
*Doodlebug*: My grandma lives in AMIRACAL, right beside me near the creek."

*Guitara*: "Ms. Mary, uh my sandwich smells like a lollipop."
meaning: according to her, her ice cream sandwich smelled like a lollipop...yeah.

*J*: "I GOT a NO-CONE."
*L*: "No, say this; I HAVE a SNOW-CONE."
[*L* has listened well to my grammar corrections]

*Doodlebug*: "My baby is coughing." & yes she covered her baby's mouth.

*Doodlebug*: "Hey, I took Ms. Mary's picture. Now you have to show Ms. Mama."
meaning: the picture she took...
